Webhosting Support needed - group website

Hey Karrot Community,
I am joining the discussion from Aalto Foodsharing in Finland. We joined Karrot about 2 years ago, and it works just perfectly. Thanks for the great work!
MY QUESTION: We would like to buy our own domain soon for email communication and a small information website. I am currently thinking about different hosting options and thought about bringing the discussion here, as it is certainly something many small groups here have to think about. Does anyone have recommendations or know of existing support for small foodsharing groups? (For the time being, I am mostly thinking of a basic static website.)

Best and thanks in advance!!
Have a sunny Sunday.

Hey!

Sorry it took a while to get back, we are not so good at replying to incoming emails! You are also welcome to join our “Karrot Team & Feedback” group where we organise our work on Karrot → Karrot (we usually reply quicker in there!)

As to your original question, perhaps you have already resolved it, but there’s many options to host a website, and it depends a lot on which skills/interests you have available.

Lately I often just write single page websites in html and css, and host them for free with Codeberg Pages | Codeberg Documentation

Our docs site (https://docs.karrot.world/) is made using VitePress (https://vitepress.dev/) which is a “static site generator”, and aimed at documentation sites.

The classic static site generator is https://jekyllrb.com/ and a newer/faster one is https://gohugo.io/.

All of those options above are quite “technical” though, and may not suit less technical people.

I noticed increasingly some projects just a linktree profile (https://linktr.ee/) to hold links to important things.

And of course there is the other options like wordpress, squarespace, etc…

Hope some of that is helpful!

Cheers,

Nick
