User story: I had this idea from my practical personal experience. I’m in multiple groups and sometimes I want to navigate between the activities I’m signed up in different groups, so I need to change group first. I think it makes sense to move the upcoming activities to the top bar, put some icon there like a calendar or something…
I also never like the space it takes on the main wall and I think this could resonate with other people’s experience. Although it’s a good reminder, it’s annoying to always see it and have to scroll down to get to the wall
I liked this one in discord, that’s for viewing threads, but interesting I think as it’s more than just a simple menu, it has extra stuff for filtering/searching
or another idea, could be it opens dialog in the middle of the page for navigating upcoming things, e.g. like (with or without a search, we don’t currently have search in the backend… so yeah…):
One thing that would be nice to have… If we go for the icon somewhere at the topbar (need to consider mobile too, so it’s not too crowded), it would be nice with a calendar icon
and add a little counter with the number of upcoming activities. It can also be color-coded, with if there’s an activity within 24 hours, or otherwise
About the display of activities on the top of the main wall: Sometimes I have the same annoyance as @bruno described initially (taking up too much space, need to scroll down), but other times I really like to have quick access to who is signed up for my next activity, without the need to click on another button.
Also I assume most users are in one group only, so it wouldn’t be such a problem. Having complexity and easy navigation in mind, I tend to wanting it to keep it there. Having the activities just show up on the main page were you land is a prominent and simple solution. Only a few thoughts on this
Having another way/calendar to see upcoming activities is nice though! And maybe it’s a both/and situation or the new navigation is as straight-forward that my concerns disappear
Just realised that my reasoning might also be connected to the videocalls we have now - easy and quick way to join the upcoming one! But also happy to try things and adjust
I also started appreciating the way it is now because of quickly finding my way back into video calls
But when I think more about this topic, I become more convinced that it would be good to put this on hold and actually explore later what we can do regarding UI and navigation in a more holistic manner, maybe doing the highly customizable group UI.
